  Cati Blitz - Ticketing Level

Cati (Vietorisz) Blitz grew up in Nashville, graduated from the University School in 1977 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in 1988. For eight years, she worked as a stained glass fabricator at the well known studio, Helios Artglassworks. Upon completion of her Art Education degree, she taught at two public schools in Metro Davidson County and for nine years at The Harpeth Hall School. This past year she has lived and taught on Colorado’s west slope and plans to return to Nashville in the fall.

The work designed for the airport installation is the third of several wall murals she has completed since 2002. The mural, Migration, combines ceramic sculpture with a surface created by various glaze print techniques. The mural is 22’ x 8’ feet and is made of seventy-four individual ceramic tiles.

Artist Statement
"In this piece I have combined my interest in ceramic sculpture and printmaking. The ceramic forms are a simplification of ten geese flight patterns. There are also eight different depth levels of the relief tiles to create a sculptural rhythm on the wall's surface. Depicted are our own human migration patterns, as well as some of the animal kingdom's innate navigation techniques. The mural's complex collage is connected by the linear design that is printed on each tile in the mural. I have used this undulating line to represent "string theory" and its attempt to explain the physics that binds our universe."
