NICHOLAS DePALMA - A/B Art Cases |
| |
| |
Nicholas DePalma grew up on historic Franklin Road and later attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee, graduating with degrees in psychology, art, and architecture. He has discovered a renaissance of artistic spirit involving the three disciplines of art, architecture and psychology. These influences, as a design trinity, are manifest in the hybrid work he is now producing.

Artist Statement
“The interplay between object, perception, and meaning is a unique phenomenon. I enjoy this phenomenon when observing a viewer’s reaction to my work. The most interesting reaction is often a smile, or perhaps a laugh. Viewers recognize an object, only inverted from its normal orientation. Then a more serious look appears upon their face as they begin to contemplate the title and the meaning derived from their own interpretation of the piece.
My belief is that the viewer’s reaction is an essential part of the creative act. Only at the point when the artist and viewer connect does the piece become whole. This moment of shared discovery often comes as a surprise to both.” |
