  J. Hunter Fleming - Fine Dining Area

Hunter Fleming was born in New Orleans and has since lived in Memphis. He holds a degree in Fine Arts as well as advanced degrees in Architecture and Design Studies. He has taught design studios and has led a number of theory seminars related to creativity and design. Fleming is a practicing architect and principal of ADI, a collaborative firm comprised of design professionals working in major cities throughout the county. As an artist, he has been painting for more than 25 years and his work has appeared in a number of group and individual shows and is in several private collections.

Fleming’s work is about exploring the inherent power of mark-making and the fine difference setting it apart from writing as well as its interplay with layers. The relationship of color, opacity, edge, and implication propose a visual narrative and a new utility.

  Artist Statement
"The evidence of making the mark is variously presented so that there is, in effect, a deal struck between the immediacy of craft and the slipperiness of ‘the natural’. In the end, they are but paintings, perhaps seductive and perhaps strangely familiar, but occasionally stepping forward of their own volition to draw one in."
