Melissa Gann grew up in the arts, beginning her studies in music as a small child. She became an accomplished pianist and earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.
After college, she began to pursue an interest in the visual arts. With the help of her mentor, Claudia Hartley, and through the instruction and study of master painters, Gann refined her talent for oil and acrylic painting. She continues to explore painting still lifes, landscapes, figurative, and portrait pieces. She currently resides with her husband in Atlanta where she continues to make music and art. |

Artist Statement
“My compositions are inspired by close-up perspectives, cut-off shapes, and sweeping curves. The bold red outline is an inspiration borrowed from my mentor. It gives the subjects a hard edge that brings them forward and makes them distinct. Within that outline I paint thinly and quickly, before the paint can dry. I blend wet into wet, but I also use subtle changes in color to make softer edges within the shape that give the fruit form and make it seem rounded.”
