Artist Statement
“On studio days I get up, make coffee, and walk out to the
studio. I scan the paper. Sometimes I remain in my pajamas.
I feel obligated to answer the phone, swap out laundry, and
play with the dog. My studio window looks out onto a small
patch of the dog’s yard. It’s Los Angeles. The grass is not
green unless I water the lawn. I am constantly in motion. I am
constantly renegotiating my space and tying up loose ends.
The paintings reflect these negotiations. I am partial to abstraction
because of its intrinsic inability to illustrate, and the ensuing
challenge this presents. My objective in painting is to build
some kind of meaning from the chaos of materials at hand.”
