Arts at the Airport, in conjunction with the Lost Boys Foundation of Nashville, Inc., proudly presents "The Art of the Lost Boys of Sudan."

The second civil war in Sudan began in 1983. In 1987, it escalated into full-blown genocide. Many boys fled without having the opportunity to say goodbye to their family.

These boys banded together and traveled about a thousand miles on foot trying to escape the soldiers and find safety in Ethiopia. More than half of these young boys were either killed or died.

After years of wandering in the desert, the United Nations set up a camp for them in Kenya. After 8 or 9 years in the refugee camps of Kenya, various American charity organizations brought 3,600 of these Lost Boys to the United States.
