MARTY STUART'S

AMERICAN ODYSSEY

concourse c corridor

Marty Stuart’s American Odyssey, a collection of 40 photographs created by the country music icon, will be on display through June 2009. These photographs tell the story of three major influences on the artist’s life: country music, rockabilly music/African American culture, and the Lakota people.

This collection has been made available by the Tennessee State Museum. According to Lois Riggins-Ezzell, museum executive director: “Marty has become an extraordinary curator and archivist of American culture. One hundred years from now, the people that come after us will know the real story of our American heritage because Marty was visionary enough to make this musical ‘odyssey’ his life’s work.”

Artist Statement
“So many of the people and places that I grew up around are now gone. Their images burned indelibly in my mind and they are a part of my soul. Their photographs live on as snapshots from a dream that I lived inside of old America."

Exhibition Note

Please note that Marty Stuart’s photography is located beyond the security checkpoint.
