Noris Binet has created a series of work entitled, “Ocean Rhythm Unfolding,” especially for the Nashville International Airport exhibition. Last year while visiting her native country, the Dominican Republic, she began collecting shells, coconut pieces, and pieces of glass softened by the sand. She began thinking about how to transport the beauty and magic of her native island back to her adopted country. While working in an improvised studio on a balcony next to the Cumberland River, she soon realized that being so close to the water and trees and hearing the sounds of birds took her back to the feelings of ocean and land of the Caribbean. She recalls that, “Intense blues started to emerge and before I knew it I was there again under the bright orange sun, beating with the red blood of a very vital culture.” These paintings attempt to capture the brilliant colors and vibrant energy of a place and its people.
