For several years, Robert Batey has been photographing the beauty of east Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains. Window View combines images from At Length, a series of panoramic landscapes, and Soliloquy, a series of Smoky Mountain wildflowers. He states, "Photography as art is a way of looking out at the world, as if through a window. As children we learn to look beyond ourselves and discover new things. As a photographer, I have developed this awareness and curiosity into a lifelong exploration."

Batey, a native of Nashville, discovered photography while studying architecture at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After receiving his degree in 1986 he moved to Philadelphia to work as an architect. Upon earning a professional license in Philadelphia, Robert decided to leave his first career and pursue his growing passion for photography. After ten years away, his return to east Tennessee brought solo exhibits with the Knoxville Arts Council, Liz-Beth Gallery in Knoxville, and the Rose Center for the Arts at Morristown. Batey's work has been exhibited both nationally and locally, won numerous awards, and is held in hundreds of private collections, including WBIR TV in Knoxville. His most recent solo exhibit was Timeless Places, a series of black & white photographs of Knoxville's historic architecture, at Hanson Gallery in Knoxville.
