RYAN MASTRO:

FOUR DAYS IN MANCHESTER

concourse c

Ryan Mastro, based in Salem, Massachusetts, has been documenting musicians and music festivals since 2005. His expansive collection of photographed artists includes renowned industry names such as Phish, The Police, Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson and Tool. Ryan's work documents the musical expression of artists, as well as the enveloping atmosphere of the live performance. His work captures music in its most honest and unveiled form.

Ryan is one of the official photographers for several large music festivals including Bonnaroo, Coachella and Outside Lands. His work has appeared in various publications including Spin, Offbeat and PDN.

“Each summer since 2002, almost 90,000 people converge on a farm in Manchester, Tennessee, for four days of musical bliss, freedom of expression and personal exploration. Since 2006 I've been lucky enough to be a part of this community as one of the official photographers for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. My goal is to not only document the diverse array of musicians, but also the devoted fans and surreal atmosphere which surround everything."

  Artist Statement
“My photographs are a bit different than the majority of images being produced by today's rock photographers. Rather than shooting digitally, I employ a variety of film cameras, film types and processing techniques. I particularly enjoy the combination of unpredictable stage lighting with high-speed black and white film.”
