SIMON LEVY

Born in 1946, in Los Angeles, Calif., Simon Levy attended the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles from 1966 to 1969, where his studies included drawing, painting, graphic design and photography. His prior professional creative background includes more than 20 years as an art director in the recording industry where he was involved with album package design, print advertising and marketing.

For the past 15 years, wood has been his chosen medium. His process is basically two-fold: first, the vessels are lathe-turned, then surface designs are developed and applied utilizing drawing, pyrography (woodburning), carving and low-relief engraving. Some artwork is enhanced with various pigments.

He lives with his wife, JoEl Levy Logiudice in Ashland City, Tenn., where he maintains a full-time woodworking and art studio.

Artist Statement

“Trees and humans share common ground. We are connected by the universal essence of Nature. My work honors this relationship. It represents a deeply personal sense of rhythm, design, respect and resolve. These are primarily one-of-akind lathe-turned wood vessels. Form and applied abstract
graphics interplay with the wood’s individually unique and distinctive features. The objective is to capture the curious viewer’s eye and imagination, inviting further exploration.”
