  Johnny Taylor -
Ticketing Lobby

Born in 1971 in Helena, AR, just outside Memphis, TN, Johnny Taylor grew up heavily imprinted by pop culture via music, film and Mad Magazine. While working on his BFA in Art History at the University of Memphis, Taylor made a new year's resolution to take on the arduous task of creating three paintings a day for an entire year. He successfully created those paintings and quickly found gallery representation and support in Memphis for his contemporary style.

Inspired by graffiti and spontaneous improvisational music like Jazz and Hip-Hop, Taylor's work is like jumping into a conversation in full swing.

  Artist Statement
"The expressive application of paint hids and unveils shapes and surfaces, reaching a vibrant tension between reckless freedom and precise control. I enjoy the look and feel of loose marks, and am drawn to advertising images and to seemingly innocuous marketing imagery. My paintings explore the things we look at each day without really seeing (them)."
