The Frist Center paired eight students from Wharton Arts Magnet Middle School with staff photographers from The Tennessean, Nashville’s local newspaper, to create photographs that reflect the students’ interest and perspectives of Tennessee. The professional photographers shared their equipment and expertise with the youth through one-on-one support and encouragement. During the partnership, the students learned about careers in photography through job shadowing and various assignments. The photographs on view resulted from this collaboration.

Also on view is a selection of photographs made by Tennessean staff photographers during the past two years. These images were chosen for their aesthetic distinctiveness and as documents of life in Tennessee in the twenty-first century.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is dedicated to presenting great art from around the world. The Center hosts traveling exhibitions from the United States and abroad, as well as develops its own exhibitions on a diverse range of themes. The Frist Center is located in downtown Nashville at 919 Broadway and is open seven days a week. For more information on the Frist Center, please visit www.fristcenter.org.

Arts at the Airport receives funding for the visual arts from the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) and the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). Music performances are sponsored by MNAA, Delaware North Companies, Inc. and The Paradies Shops. The Flying Solo Exhibition Series is funded in part under an agreement with the TAC and the National Endowment for the Arts.
