Nashville International Opens Former Overflow Lot as Long Term B
Nashville International Airport opened the former seasonal Overflow lot, east of Donelson Pike, permanently as Long Term B. This recently refurbished lot includes new signage and markings and offers the same services as the Long Term A lot, including emergency/information phones, dedicated shuttles, Express Parc, and Frequent Parker access. The daily rate for parking in this lot is $10. Patrons parking in this lot should use I-40 Donelson Pike exit 216.

All BNA patrons should plan ahead for new traffic patterns and parking processes necessitated by recent improvements to the airport’s Ring Road serving the terminal. Even experienced BNA drivers should read directional and traffic signs carefully – particularly as they approach the airport from exits off of I-40 or Donelson Pike.

This and other significant changes can be viewed on the BNA roadway map available at www.flynashville.com.

The entrance point to Long Term A and Short Term has moved. Short Term parkers now stop at a second parking ticket dispenser to validate their parking ticket. Short Term parkers will insert the parking ticket received at the first ticket dispenser into the second ticket dispenser located 1,300 feet ahead at the Short Term garage.

The cell phone/waiting area relocated and more than doubled in size, giving drivers a free place to wait to pick up arriving passengers.

Please note that access to rental car and valet parking services remains the same.

New checked baggage screening system
In addition to the ongoing terminal renovation program, other interior work includes construction of a new checked baggage screening system. This activity will generally not be visible to the public. Following Sept. 11, 2001, much of BNA’s lobby has been dedicated to explosive detection baggage screening machines. These machines will be replaced by a new in-line explosive detection system (EDS) located beneath the terminal and out of the ticket lobby. Once the new system is online, the ticket counters can be relocated and the public queuing and circulation space increased.

The first and second phases of the new baggage system were commissioned recently and are being used by Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. This automated baggage-handling system will streamline and improve the safety and security of the screening process for checked baggage. This technologically enhanced equipment requires passengers checking baggage to take a couple of extra steps to ensure a smooth process.

Passengers checking baggage should:

  • Remove or cover any old tags or bar codes, as they may cause the scanners to misread the bag.
  • Ensure that straps and hooks are removed or tucked into the luggage.

BNA Construction Update
The restroom located near the C Meeter/Greeter area behind the Southwest Airlines ticket counter area will be closed until early April for renovation. This restroom is on the south side of the ticketing level (third level).

Background on Terminal Renovation Program
In 2009, BNA launched Phase II of its terminal renovation project, the first interior renovation in the history of BNA’s existing terminal.

Phase II construction, slated to continue through early 2011, includes:

  • Renovation of existing public restrooms and construction of new restrooms
  • Replacement of terminal and concourse carpeting and tile
  • Replacement of existing heating and air conditioning units
  • Renovation of airline gate hold rooms
  • Replacement of wall coverings on ticketing, baggage and ground transportation levels
  • Enlargement of ticket lobby
  • Renovation of baggage claim
